Renovation of Commercial Building

Modernising the exterior and modifying the interior of an existing commercial building to create a communal kitchen area, shower room, large open plan office space, multiple meeting rooms and store rooms.

The design took in to account both the landlord's brief to assist in future-proofing the building and the tenant's brief for their office, meeting and storage requirements.

The main challenge was to simplify the existing structure and create a retro-fit steel portal structure in order to make the space adaptable as well as minimise waste produced by any future adaptations.

Principles of the circular economy were engage throughout and the majority of materials/products selected were those that can be currently recycled. The existing kitchen and much of the existing carpet tiles, shelving, etc. were collected by local not-for-profit groups that had been contacted via a local circular economy organisation.
